Nationwide Strike: FG Invites Organized Labour For Emergency Meeting Tuesday
As the Nationwide strike embarked upon by the Labour unions, NLC and TUC continue to gain momentum, the Federal government has called for a meeting of the tripartite committee on the new national minimum wage through the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC).
The proposed meeting is scheduled for 10 am on Tuesday.
The previous committee meeting on May 31 ended abruptly when the Organised Labour negotiating team walked out due to the government and organised private sector’s refusal to increase the offer beyond N60,000.

It is unclear if the leaders of the Labour union will attend this meeting.
According to Vanguard, the move indicates that the government is concerned about the workers’ compliance and participation in the ongoing indefinite nationwide strike.
Recall that organized labour shut down the nation’s economy on Monday due to the Federal government’s inability to adopt its proposed national minimum wage.
