‘They Called Me A Barren Woman’ – First Time Mum, Tawa Ajisefinni Recounts Ordeal Before Motherhood
Popular Yoruba actress, Tawa Ajisefinni has shared her emotional journey before becoming a mother, revealing how societal pressure and name-calling took a toll on her mental health.
In a conversation on the podcast Talk to B, hosted by her colleague Biola Bayo, the first time mom recounted being relentlessly trolled over her inability to conceive earlier in her marriage.
She disclosed that critics cruelly branded her a “barren woman,” a term that caused her significant distress. “It brought tears to my eyes,” she said, reflecting on the hurtful remarks she endured.
Elsewhere in the interview, she shut down rumors of infidelity as she noted how she got married when she was 30 and married him as a virgin. According to her, her disdain for men made her keep her chastity till she got married.
“I married as a virgin,” Tawa stated, emphasizing the value she placed on her chastity.
During the interview, Tawa also expressed gratitude to Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, whom she credited as a mentor early in her career.
She revealed that after graduating from school, Funke helped her produce one of her movies, a gesture she described as important in her journey.
Tawa and Alli tied the knot in February 2019. In August 2024, Tawa and her husband, Mayowa Jamiu Alli welcomed their first child, a baby boy after five years of waiting.
The actress took to her Instagram page to express her gratitude to God while revealing that the baby boy was born in the United States.
Tawa also captioned the post with a Christian song saying “God intervenes in people’s lives at His right time”.
“All I Have To Say Is Alhamdulilah Robil-Al-Amin. Ose olorun anu,” she added.
“It’s a boy congratulations to us okomi.”
