‘I Have Only Washed My Husband’s Clothes Once’ – Nigerian Woman Reveals As She Opens Conversation About How Stress Ages Women

A Nigerian woman, Joy Onwubiariri, has revealed that she only washed her husband’s clothes once since their marriage and that’s because she insisted on doing so when he refused.

The businesswoman disclosed this in a Facebook post on Sunday while sharing her opinion in a conversation about how stress ages women, particularly those juggling careers, motherhood, marriage and house chores.

Joy went further to share her experience with her former fiancé who believed in gender roles. According to her, her ex would tell her to wash bunch of clothes and duvet while he sits down to watch TV whenever he visited him.

She added that he would tell her not to complain as his mother who had 8 children did all the work and never complained about it.

Joy said she’s glad she didn’t marry him, adding that too much stress can make a woman look older than her age.

She wrote:

“I have only washed my husband’s clothes once and that’s because I offered to. He refused vehemently and said “No baby , your fingers would hurt . I will take it to the laundry” I insisted cos it was just 3 items.

He packs my clothes and his own to the Laundry, brings them back too. I Dey look at my heap of clothes and I am smiling knowing that he will sort them and take them to the laundry once he comes back from his trip

This evening I remembered that my ex fiancé in 2015 that would tell me to wash bunch of clothes and duvet while he sits down to watch Tv…. Wetin for kee me for that marriage na stress.

I was a fresh graduate who just finished serving and suitors were coming from left right and center. I chose the Oga cos I felt he ticked my boxes. Visiting him against my dad’s wish turned out to be my biggest blessing.

I saw first hand who I was going to live with and decided it was a bad idea …He believed in gender roles and would always say his mother had 8 children and did all the work that why should I complain?

I am glad I ran as young as I was then. I knew that a man who didn’t consider that a woman should be pampered is a NO. I have done too much domestic work growing up as an ADA and I didn’t want to anymore

Stress makes one look really old. I also remember when my husband went in search of a cleaner to clean our house weekly so that I can concentrate on my business

I thought about it and decided it was not a good idea cos we were newly married then. I thanked him for being so thoughtful and sweet.

Marriage is team work and if your husband does not like doing his laundry himself or taking it to the laundry people to wash , it will be hard ooo.

Do what works for you as far as you are happy but remember to rest ooooo.

Women need rest. We don’t do well with too much stress .. it disturbs our hormones.”
