Businesswoman Reveals The Surprising Things She Discovered While Paying Salary To Two Of Her Muslim Employees Who Are Married

A businesswoman, Roberta Edu has asked Muslims for clarification following an observation she made while paying salary to her employees.

Roberta in a post she shared online explained that she noticed two of her female employees provided the same account details for their salaries to be paid into and the account did not bear any of their names.

When she asked about it, she was told that the women are married to the same man and their salary should be paid to their husband according to Islamic practice.

The businesswoman asked Muslims how true this is. Followers who commented said the action is no different from human trafficking and they expressed fears that the man could use the women’s income to marry a third wife who would come to work for him too.

Below is what she wrote:

“Because of my program, I couldn’t pay staff yesterday as it’s our tradition to pay on the 1st. So early this morning, I started sending out payments.

When I got to a certain name, let’s call her Eniola, I found that the account name didn’t match her name. I thought the person who entered the account number must have made a mistake. I went to the next name close to Eniola, another female name, let’s call her Titi.

When I entered her account, again it showed the same account name as Eniola. At this point, I was already boiling, how can the person who made the list compile such errors?

So after paying all the others, I sent an email to the person who compiled the list to state that she had erroneously entered Eniola and Titi’s account numbers and so I couldn’t pay them. She could revert immediately with the correct numbers so they can get their pay.

To my surprise, I was made to understand that Eniola and Titi are married to the same man and they have an understanding as a family that the wives’ payments must be made to the husband’s account.

It is only the husband that can collect their salary, and they insisted that it’s in accordance with their religious practice in Islam. While our policy is strict that all salaries must be made directly to the employees account number, bringing religious laws into it is confusing me.

So, my Muslim friends, is this law in Islam? And to others, do you think the company should shift ground on this or stay on our policy and get everyone to follow or leave?

Ramadan Kareem by the way.”

That is not true and condemnable in Islam. our prophet never practice such. please read the story of our noble Prophet (May the peace of Allah continue to be with him) and his first wife Khadijat who happened to be a rich woman and she remain rich woman till her death.

@Betty added:

You should sack them both, if they are not willing to bring their account. Its important for audit purpose. Also they can do their account in such a way that their husband will be receiving their alerts, this way it does not concern the company.

@Dodomi:

Stick to your policy. Don’t pay them until they submit their own account. The husband is using them ,is the one that is working.

@Zainab AA:

I am a Muslim. No such rule exists in Islam. Their husband is just a very controlling man. Nothing to do with religion. The Prophet Mohamed himself was married to a very wealthy trader and she never handed over her earnings to Him.

@Ohunene Onido:

It’s a lie ooo. Pure lie, according to the doctrines of Islam, a woman owns her money solely and is not responsible for any contributions in the household and can only do so if she pleases. And as for the husband’s earnings and property whatever is his, belongs to the them both chikena!!!

@Suraj:

I don’t understand people using religion to manipulate the fellow. That is why you need to read and free yourself from the manipulation of man. Ask the man to qoute the surah where it is stated in the Quaran. The man has no business with the money of his wives. He is to provide for them instead. Except the women willingly give the man their money. The women are not to contribute financially to the family, only if they feel they want to support from their heart. It is voluntary from they women which the man also has the right to reject their financial contributions if need be. These women are being exploited in the name of religion. May God help us.
