Dad-Of-2, Deyemi Okanlawon Shares On How He Strikes A Balance Between His Career And Family Life

Popular Nollywood actor, Deyemi Okanlawon, speaks about how he is able to manage his busy acting career and family without any problems.

The talented entertainer, who is currently the highest grossing Nollywood actor, made this known in a recent interview with actress and show host, Lilian Afegbai.

According to the father-of-two, he doesnā€™t allow his family life to affect his career and vice-versa, adding that he gives his full attention to both aspects of his life.

Speaking further, Okanlawon said,

“Talking about balancing family life and work life, I donā€™t believe in balancing the two. Depending on what Iā€™m doing, Iā€™m 100 per cent present.

If Iā€™m on set or filming, my people know that Iā€™m 100% there and they respect that enough not to even stress me out. But when Iā€™m at home, Iā€™m 100% at home. I enjoy and maximise my time. I give everybody what they want.

In this industry, you have to build a structure around yourself because a lot will come at you. Sometimes, when Iā€™m filming, they may want to give me a place to stay ā€“ to their advantage ā€“ so that you can come on set within the shortest possible time. But I have a rule. As long as Iā€™m filming in Lagos, I always go home the same day.”

The Nollywood star who recently featured in a blockbuster movie, Blood Sisters revealed how acting in the movie, which is based on domestic violence, affected him mentally.

In the series, which was released in early May, Deyemi acted as Kola Ademola, an abusive partner who brutalised his victims as a pastime.

“There was a time I went to do a film on domestic violence. I was raised never to hit a woman but to get into that character, I had to remove that restraint that was in my head.

I called home to tell them I cannot come home for the next three days. I stayed three days after that film before I could go home.”
