TRUE LOVE: Read Bushfire Burns Survivor, Turia Pitt, & Beau, Michael Hoskin’s Amazing Love Story

Turia Pitt and Michael Hoskin met while in school. Interestingly, Michael knew from early on in their courtship that Turia was the one for him and Turia felt pretty much the same way.

A test of love, which Michael has passed in flying colours, however came by in 2011 when Turia got trapped by a bushfire in a 100 km marathon in Kimberley. She suffered from endless burns and 65 percent of her body was damaged. She lost her fingers and thumb on her right hand and had to spend almost five months in the hospital undergoing 200 surgeries.

Michael, a former police officer, gave up his job to care for her and now, he has proposed on one of their holidays in the Maldives with the diamond ring he bought four years ago while she lay in intensive care at the hospital.

Gushing about her engagement, the 27-year-old ultra marathon runner, Turia, said, ‘I’m so overwhelmed with love. Going to sleep next to my partner I never thought anything of before. Now I think lucky am I (to) get to sleep next to this beautiful man. He’s a good guy and I’m very lucky to have him. Every day I wake up beside Michael is a great day.’

Turia credits the unequivocal support of her fiance for helping bolster her confidence during the last four years, much of which she spent in hospital.

Michael describes his soon-to-be wife as ‘beautiful’ and ‘amazing’.

The couple now share a home in Ulladulla, New South Wales, have slowly rebuilt their lives, and looking forward to spending the rest of their lives together.
