See How Parents Find Suitors For Their Children in Bizarre ‘Marriage Market’ in China
A tourist in China, Jeffrey Donenfeld, has shared photos from his visit to a bizarre match-making market in Shanghai where parents advertise their children to potential suitors.
Jeffrey Donenfeld, who is a self-confessed avid adventurer from New York, wanders around the People’s Park ‘marriage market’ and films the various information cards attached to umbrellas.
Meanwhile, other mothers and fathers study the various cards on display, which reveal everything from the height and age of a potential suitor to their income and whether they own a car.
The purpose of the market, which is open for business every Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5pm, is for Chinese parents to find a suitable partner for their child.
Parents talk to other mums and dads and discover whether a potential match between their respective children could be on the cards.
The mums and dads reportedly do so because they feel their children are either too busy or not actively looking for love.
