BUSTED: Edo State Jails 50 Child Traffickers
The National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) claims to have, so far, sued 50 persons in connection with child trafficking in Edo and Delta states since the year began.
While calling for concerted efforts on the part of parents and government institutions, the Benin NAPTIP coordinator, Mrs. Cordelia Ebiringa, said Nigerians needed to be educated and well-equipped if the nation is to win the war against child trafficking. The coordinator further fingered the socio-economic situation in the country and her lack of social amenities as pointers to the continual growth of the menace.
Ebiringa said the vice affected the psychology and the social well being of its victims especially those with poor education but added that the agency is set to put a stop to the menace, “We are set for total eradication of child trafficking, although it may be a big task but with spirited efforts of individuals and faith-based groups, we shall overcome”.
