Secondary School Students Chase Their Teachers with Guns in Osun
Some students from Anglican High School and Adenle Middle School both in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, who are suspected cultists were said to have on Wednesday, invaded their school with guns, Punch reports. The invasion forced their teachers and other pupils to escape from the premises.
The cause of the invasion remains unclear; however, the attacking pupils were said to have taken the action to stop their teachers from conducting an examination that would have enabled them to benefit from the state government-sponsored free Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (popularly called WAEC) registration. While another report says it was a particular student called Toib, who had first invaded the school on Friday with his gang to attack a member of the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme with whom they had some scores to settle.
The gun-wielding boy and his gang allegedly stormed the premises with local hunter’s guns popularly called ‘dane guns.’

The Nigeria Union of Teachers directed all its members to steer clear from the attacked institutions after the attacks while the state Ministry of Education closed down the schools to prevent loss of lives.
The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Lawrence Oyeniran, refused to comment on the issue saying,
“This is a subject I don’t want to talk about. Maybe you can see the deputy governor and ask her your questions.”
However, Mr. Amudah Wakeel, the NUT Chairman, openly condemned the attack. He said that some of the teachers were lucky to have escaped being killed by the cultists.
“Some cultists among the pupils invaded the school premises. They wanted to kill some of the teachers. They took dane guns to the place but our members were fortunate to escape from the attackers.
The police have been deployed in the school to prevent the situation from leading to loss of lives. We have instructed our members to stay away from the school because of the threat to their lives.
The union has the power to instruct its members not to go to school if their lives were threatened and this is exactly what has happened,” he said.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, said that seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the crisis.
