SEE Why 10 Nigeria Universities And Polytechnic Are Under Investigation
On Thursday, 10 December, Malam Adamu Adamu, the Minister of Education set up committees to investigate the activities of 10 Universities and Polytechnics in Nigeria.
The institutions are: the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina state, Michael Okpara University of agriculture, Umudike in Abia state, University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, Federal University Kashere, Gombe state, University of Abuja, FCT and University of Nigeria, Enugu state, Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo state, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra state, Yaba College of Technology, Lagos state and University of Calabar, Cross River state.
Daily Trust reports that: the institutions were being investigated over allegations of abuse of due process, financial mismanagement and sexual harassment apparently from lecturers to students.
Mallam Adamu disclosed that a lot of complaints were received by the government about the governing councils and management of the institutions. Some of the complaints also included claims of sexual harassment being prevalent in some of the academic institutions.
He explained that the committees were set up to look into the complaints and determine the veracity of the allegations and also provide recommendations
