4 Ways Lego Helps Your Child’s Learn Mathematical Concepts
Young children learn best with the help of visual aid and Legos are any child’s best friend. Which is why school teacher, Alycia Zimmerman is using the popular children’s toy to explain mathematical concepts such as multiplication, division, fraction and equations to her students.
1. Lego helps children with part-part-total thinking as illustrated by the photo below….
2. Here’s a photo of some of the possibilities for using Lego to teach multiplication, and of course, its twin sibling, division.
3. Learning fractions is a very tricky subject for young children. To effectively learn this concept, children need a lot of opportunities to experience fractions with tangible objects. Lego blocks provides children with many possibilities to experience fractions.
4. Do you remember learning how to find the mean, median, mode and range of an array of numbers? Lego gives children a clear and visual understanding of what an arithmetic average is.
