January 16, 2016
The dreadful Lassa fever disease has hit Lagos as a 25-year-old student from the Ahmadu Bello University tested positive at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba. The patient was reportedly first admitted at a private hospital in Ojokoro area of the state before the diagnosis.
Confirming the report, Health Minister, Professor Isaac Adewole, said the patient was responding to treatment.
So far, 40 deaths have been confirmed in different states following the outbreak.
Symptoms of the disease include high fever for more than two days, vomiting, bleeding from the nose, mouth and anus. Maintaining proper hygiene and ensuring food and food items are properly covered and preserved from rodents curbs the chances of falling prey.
