Mum Celebrates 2-Year-Old Son Doctors Said Would Only Live for 2 Weeks
Little Jude Peters was diagnosed with a rare form of dwarfism at birth and doctors said he wouldn’t live beyond 2 weeks. He has however defied the odds and turned 2 last Sunday, and though he still wears clothes meant for babies around 3-months-old, his proud mum is over the moon.
USAtoday reports Jude’s mum, Hannah Peters said, “They prepared us that Jude might not be compatible with life outside the womb.”
She revealed that during her pregnancy, doctors knew Jude wasn’t growing properly as a normal baby should and told her the baby weighed three pounds and probably wouldn’t cry when he was born. However, Jude proved them wrong by weighing six pounds at birth and crying after delivery.
Hannah continued, ”They held him up in the air so I could see him and we always say it was a warrior cry. He really let out a warrior cry.”
Couple of days later, Jude was diagnosed with Type 1 RCDP, an extreme form of Dwarfism that causes respiratory problems and shortening of the bones in his arms and legs.
Jude’s mum said, ”When you first start learning about RCDP it’s really scary. You get on google and google tells you to say goodbye.”
Despite the sad news of her son’s condition, Hannah was still hopeful. She says the disease is so rare that less than 100 kids worldwide have it.
Hannah connected with some of their families and got to know that doctors in Delaware are doing extensive research on her son’s condition and close to finding a cure.
The proud mum said, “This is what we’ve been searching for. This is what we’ve been praying for, because it’s really hard watching your child go through pain. While “Super Jude” has his struggles and limitations, he continues to beat the odds…”
I can imagine the stress of caring for him.I pray they find a cure soonest
