Truly Inspiring! This Six-Year-Old’s Act of Kindness Will Melt Your Heart
This touching photo of a six-year-old girl holding a homeless man’s hand has gone viral on the Internet with nearly 136,000 shares, reports TODAY News.
The young girl’s mother, Kenyatta Lewis, who posted the photo on Facebook, told TODAY News that her daughter never hesitated in showing a little kindness to the homeless.
She said, “She’s always had a soft spot for the homeless, and whenever we’re at a red light and see someone asking for money next to us, she makes me roll down my window to give him money.”
The photo was taken in Virginia, USA, when the six-year-old, Janiyah Lewis, was leaving a beauty supply store with her mother.
According to Lewis’ Facebook post, the young girl approached a homeless man she had seen crying and said, “Hi, sir, be happy, it’s a nice day and it’s not raining. Are you hot? Why don’t you go home — the ground is dirty.”
The man responded that he had no home but was going to be okay. The girl, saddened by his response, took out a few dollars from her allowance money in her purse and handed it to the man, along with the drink she was sipping on. She then told him to use the money to get some food at a nearby McDonald’s.
Lewis said, “It was clear she made his day because his whole face lit up when she took out money. He even commented on how surprised he was to see all of this coming from a 6-year-old.”
The homeless man, who had lost everything he had, including his wife, when his trailer burned down, said he was grateful to the child, whose little act of kindness motivated other people to give him money.
Determined to help more homeless people, Janiyah and her mum launched a campaign on GoFundMe to raise money for food and clothing, which will be distributed around town to those in need, beginning in August.
The post reportedly fetched quite a number of positive responses, with a commenter writing, “God bless her heart and God bless this man. So sad, but yet such a happy moment.”
Another wrote, “I love this!! Momma is raising her right!! We need more of this!”
Lewis wrote on Facebook, “Kids see no color and that’s exactly how it should be. That gives me a little more hope for the world.”
