See What A Newly Married Keke Rider Did In A Bid To Have A Honeymoon

Two men identified as Cajetan Chinedu Egwin and King Sunday, a Keke rider were both arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) officials at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos, carrying 6.390kg of substances that tested positive to heroin.

One is a commercial keke rider in Owerri, and the other an Abuja-based trader. The drug with an estimated street value of N575 million was hidden in their luggage. Egwin, 32, was caught with 3.900kg of heroin while Sunday, 38, was found with 2.490kg of heroin.

Egwin, who is a commercial keke driver, said that he agreed to traffic the drugs because he needed money to repair his keke and that would cost him a total of N400,000, adding also that the pressure he was getting from his landlord to pay his rent which was way overdue made him fall for the offer.

Sunday, who just got married four days ago, said that he needed money for his honeymoon. His plan was to smuggle the drugs without the knowledge of his newly wedded wife, but fate caught up with him. He lamented that he had always been upright in all his transactions but this one time he ventured into something illegal, the law caught up with him.

Ahmadu Garba, who is the NDLEA Lagos Airport Commander, speaking to news men from TheNation said that Egwin arrived from Kigali on a Rwanda Airline flight, while Sunday imported the drug found on him from Nairobi during an inward screening of passengers on an Ethiopian Airline flight.

He confirmed that the suspects were being investigated. Preliminary investigation by the agency however indicated that drug trafficking cartels are gradually changing their mode of operation by turning to African countries in sourcing for narcotic drugs like heroin and the suspects were recruited for a fee to import the drugs into the country.

NDLEA’s Chairman/Chief Executive Col Muhammad Abdallah (rtd) said drug traffickers were turning to African countries to smuggle heroin produced in Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Thailand and other far away countries.

”The Agency successfully foiled their plan with the arrest and seizure of the drugs. Drug cartels thought it would be easy to smuggle the drugs into the country since heroin is not produced in Africa but I am happy that we are thinking far ahead of them,” he said.
