Another Nigerian Student in the US bags Admission into Top Ivy League Schools
As our people would say, “Naija no dey carry last.” Another US-based Nigerian student is making us proud, as she bags admission into 14 reputable universities, including three top Ivy League schools.
Meet Olawunmi Akinlemibola, the talented high school student who lives in Maryland. She has a big decision to make soon as she was accepted to 14 colleges and universities, including Harvard, Princeton and Stanford.
With a 4.15 High School GPA, many of those offers are coming along with scholarships, even some that will cover the entire cost of her four-year education.
Her counselor, Stacy Kline, told her at the start of the school year that she stood-out in the group, compared to her other 300 colleagues.
“Wunmi is one of the top students I’ve ever had the privilege of working with, And I say ‘privilege’ because she’s someone who has taken classes far beyond the ones I’ve taken — even in my master’s programs! It’s easy to do well in the things that you like. I can honestly say that she is the first student that has been accepted to the highest amount of top-tier schools that she has, but also to the Ivies. She’s just amazing” Kline said
The Herald reports that Wunmi owes it all to her mother, who was the biggest source of inspiration and encouragement.
“I love my mom, she’s really supportive, she’s wonderful.” She quickly added that her father is also a source of support. “Shout out to him too! Shout out to him too!” she said, laughing.
Wunmi who lives with her father, revealed that her mother didn’t go to college and that her father works as a security officer and her two little sisters have always enjoyed learning. She said her mother will likely join the rest of the family in Prince George’s County soon, and that when her little sisters, whom she says are way smarter than she is reach high school age, they will outshine her.
In the midst of all the academic choices yet to be made, Wunmi reportedly has a more serious challenge ahead of her: What to wear to the upcoming prom.
Wow! My kids are going to be like this some day. Amen. Congratulations girl.
