New Mom, Jordin Sparks On Why She Chose All Natural Delivery For Son, DJ Amongst Other Birth Options
Jordin Sparks and her husband, Dana Isaiah welcomed their first child together, DJ on May 2 (read here). After describing herself as being “a puddle on the floor” after becoming a mother, Sparks has laid low in the weeks since, enjoying her new little man with Isaiah.
The new mom, 28, and her husband sat down with PEOPLE to discuss welcoming their first child Dana Isaiah Jr. on May 2.
“I’m a mom. That’s so nuts,” the American Idol winner tells PEOPLE exclusively in its latest issue about welcoming son. “I have moments where it just hits me.”
On why she to chose natural birth, the singer said:
“Hospitals just felt a little weird and strange [to me],” says Sparks. “I had a feeling I wasn’t going to be comfortable on my back and I didn’t want to have to give birth that way.”
Fortunately, she had husband on hand to catch the newcomer. She “handled the birth like a champ,” her husband, 26, added about his wife.

During the emotional delivery, “he was right by me the whole time,” says Sparks.
“When I was going to different places and different universes with the contractions, he was right there in my ear or rubbing my back.”
She also revealed that when it was time for the baby to arrive, her husband was the one who caught his son.
“I finished out the contractions on the bed and then we went to the tub. When it was time to push, Dana received him,” says Sparks.
Isaiah, a fitness enthusiast and model who wed Sparks in July 2017, said,
After Isaiah received the child, the happy couple “cried like little babies” according to Isaiah. “It was just that realizing moment, that everything you had been preparing for was here in your hands. Every emotion that you felt throughout the entire pregnancy from start to beginning just ‘Bam,’ and it hits you.”
Sparks gushed; “He’s just the sweetest little thing.”

And now that he’s here, both are getting used to dealing with this whole new aspect to their lives, even as they step back into the limelight.
“He’s starting to develop his own personality and holding his head up already,” said Isaiah.
