Hardwork pays, but what pays more is smart work. Nola-native Sevetri Wilson, is a young woman who has defied the limitations placed on her by her background, through smart work to solely create advancements for herself.
No one said being raised in a household by a single mother with five other siblings would be easy, but Wilson didn’t allow that to stop her grind especially after losing both parents at age 22, TheSource gathers.
Wilson started her first company at 22 and grew it to a multi-million dollar business.

“I was raised by a single mother who made less than $30,000 a year taking care a household of 5. I’m a first-generation college student and lost both of my parents by the age of 22. I started my first company with zero investment capital, no connections, and grew it to a million dollar company.
I often talk about my upbringing because I think it’s important for people to understand my journey, especially those younger than me who come from a similar background. I want them to know if I did it with so few resources they can do it too and even better.
I don’t think there is one thing I’m most proud of, but I am proud of my ability to build good companies and execute a vision. I’m also proud of where I come from. I’m a first-generation college student that was raised by a single mother in a household of 5,” she was quoted.
The woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., is a first-generation college student. She attended Louisiana State University, receiving her B.A in Mass Communication/Journalism and M.A in History (concentration in US and Global Underdeveloped Populations).

Her hustle didn’t go unnoticed as she received over $100,000 in scholarships and numerous awards, which includes: the Nobel Prize for Public Service — Jefferson Award 2010, Woman of Excellence in Business Award — Louisiana Legislature (Women’s Caucus), and the NAACP Great Expectations Award to name a few.
After earning her master’s degree in 2009, Wilson founded her first company, Solid Ground Innovations (SGI), a strategic communications firm that assists corporations, government entities, and non-profit foundations in growing their identities through advertising, branding, and social media.
With her tenacious efforts, she was able to grow SGI into a multi-million dollar company. Additionally, in 2016, Wilson launched a start-up tech company, ExemptMeNow, that assists non-profits with filing the necessary paperwork to obtain 501(c)(3) status.

Not only has she capitalized as an entrepreneur, but she was able to raise $2 million for her tech company with no connections or investment capital.
Only in her early thirties, Miss Wilson is proof of what it means to be self made!
