Baby Recipe: Wholesome Rice Cereal
There is nothing ‘magical’ about the nutrition components of commercially made infant rice cereal. Making your own is as easy as grinding rice into a powder, then cooking it for 10 minutes. In a previous post, we have already highlighted the many benefits of making your own baby food, read here.
The result is a smooth baby rice that’s not only simple to prepare, but is cheaper than commercial brands too!

This recipe is intended for babies 9 months up.
Ingredients
1/4 cup brown rice powder
1 cup of water
A little formula/breast milk
To make the rice powder, grind brown rice in a blender or food processor. This is best achieved by grinding in small quantities – but to make the powder really fine, you should try an electric coffee grinder.
You can use white rice if you prefer, but brown rice is more nutritious.
Preparation
Step 1
Bring the water to a boil. Add the rice powder, stirring constantly with a wire whisk.
Reduce the heat to very low and simmer gently for about 10 minutes (don’t forget to keep stirring, or the rice will stick).
Step 2
Stir in enough formula or breast milk to give the consistency that is best for your baby.

That is all there is to it, your baby’s wholesome rice cereal is ready in 20 minutes. Once baby has been introduced to fruit, you could always add a little of his favourite puree.
