Parenting At Its Best!! This Nigerian Dad, Onyeka John Is A True Inspiration
A Nigerian father, Onyeka John has taken to Twitter to share a post which has had many Nigerians praising his parenting skill. In his post, Mr John narrated the action he took after his 12-year-old son mocked a boy for wearing rubber sandals to school.
To teach his son a lesson he will never forget, the proud dad said he locked up his sneakers and fancy shoes and then bought him two rubber sandals -one for school and the other for church. John said that the reason he did this was to force his son to realise his wrong doing and become responsible.
He went further to reveal that he also used rubber sandals when he was in school and had other students make jest of him.
Onyeka John Tweeted:
“My son mocked a boy on rubber sandals last Friday, so yesterday I bought him two rubber shoes, one for church, the other for school and locked up all his sneakers and fancy shoes, he must have sense by force
#responsibleparenting. He thought it was a joke till his brand new rubber shoes arrived.I felt proud of myself when I saw the shock on his face, I told him don’t daddy me, this will be your shoes for the next one month.
I was deeply disturbed. He must be thought never to look down on people ever again, I felt bad because I went to school with rubber sandals and had other students make jest of me then. He will be without his fancy shoes for a long time. Me and wifey both agreed on a 30 days probation.
He is 12, the mum was initially against it but I made her see the reasons we had to use this opportunity to make him a better person and she is so on board now, her first son, they share a special bond.”

He has been praised as a good father and a number of other parents have said they will discipline their children in the same way if they did such.
Commendable sir, rubber sandal was a prized asset for me back in the days, some other wore bathroom slippers or even barefoot to school. IT still happens today. Let him understand his wrong and ensure he gets remorseful before lifting the ban on sneakers… Thank you again.
The beautiful thing about this is that he will also be laughed at and he will also feel the pain the other student felt … he will learn never to look down on any one and will understand that fingers aren’t always equal he will learn that early, you did good sir.
He may not feel the same pain. He knows his sneakers are locked up somewhere. All he has to do is convince his father he regrets it. Even when he does not.

Sir, your lesson really touched me emotionally and made me to realised that being privileged doesn’t mean we should looked down on others who were not. May God bless continue to bless you sir.
Kids can’t think on their own.. They just do things without remorse. We have to be there to guide them.

First of all, I won’t say you’re totally wrong or right. Secondly, the father used a more effective method to correct “his own” child. The child will remember that even if he has everything, he can loose it all. Every parent has their method. Maybe telling a story wouldn’t work.
