‘Using Mobile Phones Near Petrol Tankers Can Trigger Explosion’ – Security Expert, Nurain Mumuni Warns Nigerians

A safety and security expert, Amb. Nurain Abayomi Mumuni, on Monday, has warned Nigerians against using mobile phones close to fuel tankers.

Mumuni, who is a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasised that the use of mobile phones near fuel tankers could trigger an explosion.

He stated that people should always keep a safe distance from fuel tankers, especially during loading and unloading operations.

The APC chieftain also called on parents and guardians to educate and teach children about the dangers of fuel tankers, ensuring they know to stay clear of these vehicles and report any issues to an adult.

Mumuni made these declarations while extending condolences to Governor Umaru Bago and the people of Niger State over the tragic death of their residents that lost their lives in the petroleum tanker explosion that occurred over the weekend, Daily Post reports.

The police had confirmed the death of 73 persons following the tragic tanker explosion that occurred at the Dikko Junction, Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, Niger State, on Saturday.

Reacting to the unfortunate incident, the political leader urged Nigerians to avoid using mobile phones near fuel tankers, saying that they can potentially trigger explosions if they are used in a way that creates a spark.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Rasheed Abubakar, Mumuni said that addressing literacy and awareness regarding fuel tanker safety is crucial to preventing explosions in Nigeria.

He advised Nigerians to report to local authorities if they observe a fuel tanker leaking or parked in an unsafe location.
