Hailey Bieber Details ‘Scary’ Childbirth Complication And How Parenthood Changed Her Marriage To Justin Bieber In Revealing Vogue Interview

American model and businesswoman, Hailey Bieber is getting candid about her road to motherhood.
In an interview for Vogue‘s cover story published May 20, Hailey recalled what it was like to welcome her first child, son Jack Blues Bieber, with her husband.
The 28-year-old, who is the daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin, is married to singer, Justin Bieber since 2018 and together they are parents to nine-month-old Jack.
During the interview, the mother of one admitted that no amount of preparation could have helped her for what happened as she gave birth to her son last year, August 2024.
The Rhode founder said the day she gave birth to her son was arguably the best of her life, but it came with complications.
“Giving birth was the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” Hailey told Vogue, adding that she did everything in her power to prep beforehand.
“I was on that s**t. I was doing everything. I felt stronger physically than I ever had before.”
But despite the months of workouts and pelvic-floor therapy leading up to baby Jack’s arrival, she ended up having to be medically induced.
She added that she was in labour for 18 hours, during which doctors used a Foley balloon—a catheter inserted into the uterus and filled with saline to induce labor—to make for an even more uncomfortable experience.

Hailey recalled:
“That s**t was so crazy. That was not fun. They broke my water. I went into labor and I labored for a few hours. No epidural, nothing.”
But the true fear and discomfort came after the couple welcomed their first baby.
After baby Jack was born on Aug. 22, Hailey experienced a postpartum hemorrhage, which is “severe or excessive bleeding after childbirth,” “which was a little bit scary”.
Postpartum hemorrage can cause the body to go into shock and lead to organ failure and death, per the Cleveland Clinic.
In the story, the first time mum described the experience as “a little bit scary.” She continued:
“I trust my doctor with my life. And so I had peace that I knew she would never let anything happen to me. But I was bleeding really badly, and people die, and the thought crosses your mind.”
While the doctors gave her different medications to treat the model’s postpartum hemorrhage, she recalled baby Jack being taken away amid the chaos. Hailey noted:
“You start to get a little freaked out. I wanted to hold my baby. I wanted to be with him.”
Luckily, it didn’t take long before the doctors inserted a Jada device, a vacuum-induced hemorrhage control device, to successfully stop the bleeding.
As for how Justin was faring throughout the process, Hailey remembered him starting to think,
“’My woman is a god. A superhero. I could never.’ At least that was the case for me.”
Hailey also opened up about the postpartum period — “the most sensitive time” she’s gone through — and how it impacted her marriage.
She said her vision of Justin Bieber, whom she married in 2018 at the age of 21, also changed.
“You see your partner so differently,” she said, adding that Justin is an amazing dad.
The socialite added that online speculations surrounding their relationship woes at the time did not go unnoticed. She explained:
“Being postpartum is the most sensitive time I’ve ever gone through in my life and learning a new version of myself is very difficult.”
“To be doing that all the while going on the internet every day and people being like, ‘They’re getting divorced’ and ‘They’re this’ and ‘They’re not happy,’” she continued, “it is such a mindf**k. I cannot even begin to explain it. It’s a crazy life to live.”
Now a mom of one, Hailey said parenthood has been her “biggest teacher” so far.
“I think you empathize with your parents a lot more. There’s so much perspective that comes with it,”
she said.
