Ebola: Facebook Founder, Mark Zuckerberg and wife donate $25m to fight Ebola
Joining the fight against Ebola is the leader of Tech giant, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan who donated a whopping sum of $25 million dollars to the US Centers for Disease Control’s nonprofit arm.
According to the Telegraph UK; the grant from Zuckerberg and Chanâs donor-adviser fund at Silicon Valley Community Foundation is for the CDCâs Ebola response in the three West African countries most affected â Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone â and âanywhere in the world where Ebola poses a threat to health,â according to an e-mailed statement from the CDC Foundation.
In a Facbook post yesterday, Zuckerberg who thinks most governments do not realise the disease is at a âcritical turning point,” said, âWe need to get Ebola under control in the near term so that it doesnât spread further and become a long-term global health crisis that we end up fighting for decades at large scale, like HIV or polio,â
âWe believe our grant is the quickest way to empower the CDC and the experts in this field to prevent this outcome.â
The gift from Zuckerberg and Chan, who is a physician, will provide âflexible funding allowing CDC to address the most pressing needs as the epidemic shifts and evolves,â said Charles Stokes, president and chief executive of the CDC Foundation.
