Dear MIMsters: How do I expose my brother-in-law without exposing myself?
How do I expose my brother-in-law for this crime he committed without exposing myself?
Adeoye has always been too good to be true, to me. A man who doesn’t drink alcohol, doesn’t smoke and does not keep late night. He was just too good to be true.
Amaka, a colleague at work had told me no man could be that perfect. She said he must be perfect at his schemes. As if to confirm what Amaka said, I ran into a neighbour of mine at our estate gate that very evening who told me she had seen my husband within the estate around noon. I argued with her that it couldnât have been my husband because we left the house together that morning. He was the first to drive out of the compound and I followed suit but she insisted it was my husband she saw.

When I got home, I asked my house help if Oga came home in the afternoon, and she said he did not. When I probed further, she said she wasnât very sure because she went to the market in the afternoon.
When my husband returned home, I asked him if he came home in the afternoon, he initially said he didnât but I wanted to get to the bottom of it all so I prodded further. Why, you may want to ask.
My husband and I often communicate. We tell each other where we are going during the day, so how come he didnât mention that he was home that afternoon?
Well, when he realized that I wasnât going to give up, he admitted he came home and said he must have forgotten because he just dashed in and out. He said as a matter of fact, he didnât come with his own keys so it was Clara that opened the door to him. âReally! But Clara said she wasnât at home in the afternoonâ, I stated.
When I recounted this âdramaâ to Amaka at work the following day, she advised me to install a CCTV in my home without my husbandâs knowledge so I could get to the bottom of what may be happening and I obliged.

An opportunity to install the CCTV presented itself when Adeoye was out of town on official assignment. I seized that occasion to quickly grant Clara some time off duty. My friend introduced me to a guy who got an almost invisible CCTV for me which was installed in an unsuspecting corner in my home.
Two months ago, armed robbers visited our estate and our home was one of the few ones burgled. Three out of the houses had CCTV in their homes and that aided police investigations. The shocking aspect of their findings was that even though the robbery happened the same day, the groups that robbed the three CCTV powered houses varied so the findings couldnât be generalized.
When I summoned courage to view the recordings on âourâ CCTV, I found out that it was my husbandâs brother, the very one who was stood against his marrying me that led the group that robbed our own apartment.
Now, since my husband was the target for my CCTV, I cannot afford to tell him what I know. We had even told the police while being questioned that we do not possess one in our apartment but I know I got one installed. When we were robbed, so much was taken- my gold jewelries, foreign currencies, electronics, etc.
My husbandâs brother has been quite âsupportiveâ and Adeoye has not stopped singing his praises to the high heavens, telling everyone who cared to listen how supportive his brother has been. He talked about how he even paid the police to âgingerâ the investigation but I now know that he is not innocent; I know he was the leader of the gang that robbed us.

My challenge now is this! How do I expose my thieving brother in law without exposing myself to my husband and getting on the wrong side of the law after telling the police that we have no CCTV installed in our home? How?
I am speechless don’t even know what to advice. One thing is tell your husband about your finding and explain to him why you got the CCTV in the first place. You guys are not safe with that brother of his.
