“After what I went through having my child, it dawned on me that it’s not easy to be a mother”- Stephanie Linus Talks About Maternal Mortality In Nigeria
Nollywood actress and mum-of-one, Stephanie Okereke-Linus, has bared her thoughts on what motherhood can feel like in this part of the world.
The movie star was speaking as part of activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF), where she highlighted issues of maternal mortality and touched on her own experience birthing her child, it was a time when it dawned on her that motherhood is no small feat, she said.
In her words:
“After what I went through having my child, it dawned on me that it is not easy to be a mother. When you put to bed and you’re cool, be grateful and be happy because that story is not the same with other people.”

The women’s health advocate made further remarks about how a good number of Nigerian doctors are thriving and providing quality healthcare services to people in the diaspora, while Nigerians keep lacking in the most basic healthcare services, and particularly pregnant women.
Speaking, the mother-of-one said:
“What the government needs is the will. So, all hands must be on deck to ensure that we have good medical system in Nigeria.
We can’t continue to have our mothers dying, we can’t have our population sick and going through all these crazy things that are going on.

We need to create the right environment, engage the doctors, engage people.
I think it is the right of a woman to choose what happens to her body; after all, you are not the one carrying the baby on her behalf.”
