Canadian And US Government Issue Important Travel Advisory To Their Citizens Who Intend To Visit Nigeria
Nigeria is in a state of ‘limo’ as the Canadian and United States Government have issued out a ‘No Travel’ to their citizens who intend to visit the country.
This comes after the United State Government and the Department of State issued out a level 3 security risk to its citizens and diplomats who plans of visiting Nigeria or are living in the West African country.
A level 3 security risk means the Department is advising its citizens who intend to travel to the West African country to reconsider their decision as most parts of the country is not safe.
According to a statement released by the Canadian government, all citizens are urged to avoid non-essential travel to Nigeria due to the unpredictable security situation throughout the country and the high rate of terrorism, crime, inter-communal clashes, armed attacks and kidnappings happening in the country.
The Canadian government just like the US government also listed some states like Borno State, Yobe State, northern Adamawa State, Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta and Rivers (with the exception of Port Harcourt) as places its citizens living in Nigeria or intend to travel there should avoid visiting.
The above mentioned places should also be avoided by Canadians in Nigeria due to the constant attacks, kidnapping, terrorism, crimes, maritime crime etc in these regions according to the Canadian government.
It also stated that its citizens should exercise a high level of caution in some big cities in Nigeria like the capital Abuja, Calabar and the business capital Lagos due to the high rate of crimes in these areas.
This won’t be the first time the US government has issued such a ‘notice’ to its citizens traveling to Nigeria as it happened back July 2020 when terrorism and the activities of the deadly extremist group Boko Haram was on the rise in the country.

The Department of State mentioned some places like the Borno State, Yobe State, northern Adamawa State as States its citizens should avoid traveling to due to the rise of terrorism and kidnapping in those States.
It also mentioned States like Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Katsina and Zamfara as places that has the high level of kidnapping.
States like coastal areas of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta and Rivers (with the exception of Port Harcourt) were also labelled as crime, kidnapping and maritime crime prone areas citizens to avoid traveling to.
There has been a rise of kidnapping, crime, and killings in Nigeria right now especially in Kaduna State where two students from the Greenfiled University were abducted and killed by some bandits few days ago.
According to reports, additional two students from the same university were abducted and killed two days ago making a total of 4 students from the university.
A level 3 security risk is the last resort before a government issues a ‘travel ban or do not travel’ to any country they think not safe for its citizens to travel to.
