‘We Didn’t Know My Son Picked A 2nd Wife’ – Pete Edochie Speaks On His Son, Yul’s Marital Woes As He Drums Support For His First Wife
Nollywood legend, Pete Edochie has distanced himself from his son, Yul‘s decision to ditch his marriage to first wife, May and picked actress, Judy Austin as a second wife.
Pete is regarded by many as one of Nollywood’s greatest and living legends in every regard. However, the recent happening within the Edochie family has left his legacy tainted.
For a while, critics of the ongoing marital saga between May and Yul have believed his father, Pete might have given his blessings to Yul’s decision to get a second wife giving Pete’s media silence on the issue. The veteran actor has now publicly addressed the issue.
In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Pete said he has five sons and he never interferes in their business unless they inform him.
He said he heard online that Yul had picked a second wife just like every other person heard. He added that it was the same way he found out he was contesting for the position of governor online.
The 76-year-old grandpa showered praises on May and expressed his deep love and affection for her, stating that he was close to her father.
He went on to reveal that the success of their marriage which has spanned over 20 years is largely to her credit.
Pete also revealed that May is a very brilliant woman and many don’t know she is a computer wizard.
He, however, stated that many people have been advising May wrongly by trying to put asunder her union with Yul and that most of the women advising her do not have happy homes or even divorced.
He noted that he would forever be endeared to May because he sees her as his daughter, not just as a daughter-in-law.
Sir Pete said in part,
“First of all, Yul is 41 and I really don’t interfere in his affairs, no. Suddenly we heard he’s picked up a second wife.
There is one thing you must know about me. I don’t lie, it’s not necessary. God created me so well, If I tell you this thing is black, it is black. You know, it’s like when he want everything to run for governor or something. When I saw his photograph, I thought it was introduction they were doing.
There was someone who called me and said do you know something? Yul is running for governor and I said he must be crazy, how? I never heard it. I have 5 sons, I don’t interfere with their lives you know.
If they say daddy, so and so thing is happening, good, if they don’t tell me, I don’t bother. If they tell me, beautiful. We just heard it and that’s it.
There is something we always say in Igbo: ‘if you go and pick up ant infested faggots, it’s a direct invitation to the lizards, come to roast, right?’ So, here I am and that’s all.
We just heard Yul suddenly picked a second wife. Mary (May) is a very wonderful woman. The success of that marriage is to Mary’s credit. A lot of people have been advising her wrongly and most of them don’t have good homes.”
This follows report that May has filed for divorce and a restraining order against her husband to prevent him from gaining access to their former matrimonial home.
