See Grave Consequences Now Attached To Sexual Offences In Nigeria

The Sexual offences Bill passed by the Senate yesterday attaches life imprisonment for gang rape, as well as 10 years for incest and child pornography respectively. A fine of N2 million and 14 years jail term applies for other forms of sexual offences.

Senator Chris Anyanwu, who is the sponsor of the bill and Chairman, which has been pending since 2013, said amongst others, the bill ‘seeks to make a comprehensive legislation on sexual offences by criminalizing certain acts such as sexual tourism, child pornography and cultural and religious sexual offences in our criminal jurisprudence.’
