Family of 6 Narrowly Escapes Death After Malicious Woman Raises False Alarm
A family of six mistaken as robbers by the police after a woman made a false report could have been shot death at the Ogudu Ori-Oke area of Lagos.
According to PMNews, the woman identified as Lauretta Ehon, had informed RRS operatives patrolling the Ogudu Ori-Oke axis at about 5:30 pm over the weekend that some armed robbers just snatched her 2012 Toyota Camry.
Immediately, Police Inspector, Christian Onawona who was with his men responded to her claims and started chasing the said stolen car. Unfortunately, they got stuck in traffic, so the Inspector alighted from the official car and took a bike in order to hasten their chase and capture the alleged robbers.
Meanwhile, the people in the car being chased were unaware of the police chase until the policeman caught up with them and fired a warning shot into the air. When the police approached the car, he saw 6 occupants; 3 females, a male called Wasiu Balogun and 2 toddlers aged 1 and 2, who were all going for a party.
At that point, the police officer got to know that Lauretta had raised a false alarm.
It was later revealed that Lauretta’s husband and the owner of the car, Mr. Balogun, transacted a business which had to do with the clearing of a Tokunbo car 6 years ago. Unfortunately, the car went into demurrage after Lauretta’s husband, Mr Ehon, paid the clearing agent but he settled with Mr. Balogun and gave the car to him.
His embittered wife then vowed she would get the money back from Mr. Balogun any time she noticed him.
On the fateful day Lauretta saw the car, she decided to tell a lie that the occupants of the car were robbers, thinking the police would fire at them before they had a chance to explain. Unknown to her, Mr Balogun who transacted business with her husband was not in the car.
Bisola Balogun, one of the occupants in the car said she was full of praises and thankful to the officer who chased them for not firing at them directly.
She said,
”In fact, I am still at shock. If it were to be another police officer, it is possible that he might shoot our car and anything could have happened. We thank God and appreciate the officer for applying uncommon wisdom in handling the matter.”
The woman has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for prosecution.
