Amazing! 12 Year Old Boy Makes History as he Receives Admission into Two Universities
A 12-year-old child genius has set records after two different universities offered him admission.
NBCnews reports that the 12-year-old Sacramento student who already has three community college degrees and has been accepted to two University of California campuses plans to study biomedical engineering and becoming a doctor and medical researcher by the time he turns 18.
The child genius identified as Tanishq Abraham has now been accepted to UC Davis and received a regents scholarship to UC Santa Cruz, but he is yet to decide which university he’ll attend.
“I think I’ll be 18 when I get my MD,” he said.
Tanishq stated, “I’m pretty excited. I’ve been waiting for this for quite some time now. I’ll finally be working on my bachelor’s. It’s very exciting.”
Information gathered revealed that the boy started community college at age seven and last year he received three associate’s degrees from American River College, a community college in Sacramento in general science, maths, and physical science; and foreign language studies.
He got his high school diploma a year ago, and his accomplishment earned him a letter of recognition from President Barack Obama.
His parents said Tanishq, who joined the IQ society MENSA at only age 4, has always picked up knowledge quickly.
His dad, Bijou Abraham said: “We tested him and discovered that he was pretty smart. We were surprised when we started giving him advanced stuff and he was picking it up really fast.”
The genius has big plans for the future as he hopes to become a doctor, a medical researcher, and finally, president of the United States.
His dad, a software engineer added: “I think if he puts his mind to it, he can achieve whatever he wants. We’re supportive of whatever he wants to do.”
But first, Tanishq has to choose which college to go to. UC Davis is closer to home — his parents would only have to drive him 20 minutes each way — but UC Santa Cruz has offered him a Regents Scholarship, the highest honor awarded to incoming students.
“I am still debating between them,” he said. “There are some benefits to both of them.”
When he’s not studying, Tanishq said he loves going on Twitter and playing video games with his 10-year-old younger sister Tiara, a fellow MENSA member who is also taking college classes at American River.
The siblings’ mom, Taji Abraham, was a veterinary doctor who abandoned a Ph.D program to stay with the kids and home school them when she realized how bright they were, Bijou added.
Professors at the college didn’t initially want him in their classes because of his age. But finally, a professor agreed to let him attend if his mother, a doctor of veterinary medicine, also took the class.
“There were times when I had to explain general relativity and special relativity to my mom,” he said.
Speaking of the genius, Biology professor Marlene Martinez said he was never afraid to ask lots of questions.
“In lecture he would always pop up with ‘so, does that mean …’ or ‘what about this?'” Martinez said.
