Mariah Carey Finalizes Divorce With Estranged Husband, Nick Cannon

Mariah Carey and estranged husband, Nick Cannon, are officially over as the pair have finalized their divorce, a source confirms to PEOPLE. Mariah reportedly wanted to wed billionaire fiancé, James Packer, so bad she asked her ex and father of her twins, to hurriedly sign off on their divorce papers to expedite the process.

The divorce process between Carey and Nick, who are parents to five-year-old twins Monroe and Morrocan, ‘was dragging on and on, mainly because of the back and forth between their lawyers’ when the veteran songstress personally intervened.

According to Dailymail, Mariah reportedly recruited Los Angeles lawyer, Laura Wasser to streamline the process, before personally calling Cannon to explain the urgency of the situation.

‘Mariah called Nick and said, “I really want to get married. Will you sign these papers?”‘ a source told the outlet.

Nick was cool and said, “I’m not going to stand in your way. I’ll sign the papers.”

Cannon ”signed the papers in September, because Mariah and James wanted to get married in early 2017,” the source added.

Unfortunately, there may be no wedding at all as her 46-year-old Australian businessman fiancé already called off their engagement following a fierce fight in September (read here).

Nick and Mariah filed for divorce at the end of 2014 but have often reunited to spend time together with their 5½-year-old twins.

On chances of Mariah and Packer getting back together, the source close to Packer said:

”They are not together right now… It’s possible they will get back together. They are still talking, but James needed a break.”

Meanwhile, Packer’s rep previously told PEOPLE that Mariah‘s claims, questioning his mental stability are ”simply not true.”

A source close to Packer also stated that it’s ”typical Mariah to just twist things that don’t sound good to her. They split because she has issues.”
