After A String Of Failed Adoption, Miscarriages, Infertile Woman is Granted IVF Treatment
Claire Dodd, 41, a single British woman from Manchester, thought she would never get the opportunity to become a mother, after she was left infertile at the age of 21. Her story, however changed when she was granted fully funded IVF treatment by National Health Service.
Ms Dodd’s story was shared to give other women hope that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
According to Dailymail;
The National Health Service (NHS), UK, granted Claire two fully funded IVF procedure which brought back her hope of being a Mum. Claire became Infertile at the age of 21 after having her fallopian tubes and ovaries removed as a result of cysts.
Claire’s relationship came to a halt at the age of 30, yet in her bid to become a Mum, she decided to give adoption a try because she felt she had limited time to have a baby. She was however, unsuccessful. After her failed adoption attempt, she decided to try our IVF at age 37. Her inspiration came from a woman who was granted IVF treatment. She applied to NHS for funding of her IVF procedure, and was granted two cycles of fertility treatment. In March and June 2014, she had two embryos implanted that failed. Claire said;
“After four failed attempts, my dreams of having a baby were fading. While I was struggling to carry a baby, my friends and family were having children. It was so hard to be around them and be happy. Each time I discovered I was pregnant, I was terrified I would lose the baby and my nightmares just kept becoming a reality”
In November, 2014, her next insemination was halted, as the intended donor did not harvest enough eggs to share with her. She had just three embryos left. Despite doctors’ advice not to implant two at a time, due to bad scarring on her stomach left from her operation, Ms Dodd, was desperate and so on Mother’s Day in March 2015, two embryos were implanted. Three weeks later, she discovered she was pregnant and the foetus had a healthy heartbeat.
“I was obviously devastated to be left infertile, but was told I would always have the option of IVF as my womb remained intact, every day I realize how lucky I am to have her, I know the pain and trauma of having miscarriages, but if you can get through that you can get through anything. My advice to people having IVF is not to give up. To me, having a baby is worth all the pain in the world.”
Claire, endured a turbulent pregnancy, she gave birth to her baby, a girl in October 2015 at the age of 39. After waiting 20 years to be a mum, she said,
“I still can’t believe I’m a mum, I waited so long to have a baby and after two failed long- term relationships, I thought being single, I’d never be able to be a parent. I could never afford funding IVF myself, so I’m glad I was given the chance. It’s definitely been worth all the heartache when I look at my daughter” Claire said.
IVF is usually not successful so the birth of Claire’s daughter, Amberley is great news, we wish them both well for the future.
