”Go ahead and breastfeed without fear in church” – Pope Francis Urges Nursing Mothers
The current Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis has encouraged nursing mothers to feel free to breastfeed their hungry infants while in Church, as the pontiff baptized 28 babies – 15 boys and 13 girls in the Sistine Chapel to mark the feast of the Baptism of Jesus Christ, RT news reports.
Surrounded by the sounds of baby noises, the Argentine Pope told worshipers that Christ’s first sermon was made to the sound of his crying in the stable at Bethlehem.
”The babies are crying, he said, because they are in an unfamiliar place, or because they had to get up early, or sometimes simply because they hear another child crying. Jesus did just the same, adding that he liked to think of Our Lord’s first sermon as his crying in the stable.
“The ceremony is a little long, someone’s crying because he’s hungry. That’s the way it is. You mothers, go ahead and breastfeed, without fear. Just like the Virgin Mary nursed Jesus,” he said to the worshippers.
This is not the first time that the 80-year-old Pope has encouraged mothers to feed their babies during mass. He made a similar appeal at the Baptism service in 2015 and in 2014, as well as in a December 2013 interview.
