This Viral Kids’ Puzzle Left Adults Stumped…Can You Solve?
A test paper puzzle by British puzzle inventor, David Bodycombe, which proved easy for six-year-olds has left several adults on the internet scratching their heads since going viral this week.
The question, from an admission test for a primary school in Hong Kong, is intended to be solved by the children in 20 seconds. However, according to online reaction, it’s much tougher to solve for adults.
The question features an illustration of a parking lot with six spaces. Five of the spaces feature numbers, and the sixth has a car in it obscuring the number, with the question, ‘what is the number of the parking space containing the car?’
Adults using logic or algebra to solve the puzzle were stumped because it’s a lot easier than that. For children, (guess, they’re smarter), the obvious answer is to flip the page and come out with the answer – 87, which is the missing number in the ascending sequence of 86 to 91.
We bet you weren’t even thinking in that direction!
