Nigerian mom, Obis Ora a Brand and fashion influencer took to Instagram to share three of the biggest lessons being a mom has taught her.

No woman has the manual to motherhood. In fact, every parent does what they know for their kids in hope that they are giving them the best in life. Meanwhile, motherhood brings out the strength in you that you did not know existed before you had your children.

Read what she wrote below,

I have been many things in all my years on earth and in different stages of my life, from child, to student, to employee, to now Business owner. I will tell you for free that one of the most important job roles I have had to take is “mummy”.

It’s been a beautiful but very tasking experience, and to be honest sometimes I am learning on the job. Today, I thought to share 3 of the biggest lessons I have learnt from being a mum so far.

1. Patience:

Looking after my children, taking care of them when they are sick, waiting on them while they do their thing, listening to them, creating conversations etc has all taught me what real patience is about. Even when I think I don’t have time, time comes out by force. And these children like to take their time ??

2. Work hard:

Being a parent is about being responsible for another human for the rest of your life and their lives as well. This means financially you have to meet up. Not mummy I want this, and I will be scratching head?. Asides school fees, there is feeding, and of course healthcare.

Then menial things like costumes, change of clothes, toys, co-curricular activities, ice cream day, are unending but we have to meet up. This is why I wake up every day and go to my office @wardrobemerchant and give it my best shot, because my kids are counting on me.

3. Be more mindful of my values:

Because my kids are watching, and they will essentially become who I show them to be. Kids watch us a lot and emulate our behaviours even without us knowing so I’ve had to reevaluate my values and teachings I have to pass down to my kids. *Insert wrapper gang*….your kids will copy that wrapper too.

BONUS: PRAY! harder, and more consistently. I’m yet to open up about this part. But I can tell you I have faced motherhood challenges that have made me way more closer to God. Remember how we always said our mother’s prayers is what’s keeping us? Do same for your kids.
