TV Host, Dolapo Oni -Sijuwade Highlights Lessons Motherhood Has Taught Her

No doubt, media personality and TV host Princess Dolapo Oni-Sijuwade is a woman wearing several admirable hats . She’s a producer, an actor, a mum, wife, and a mentor.

The yummy mummy-of-one was recently honored as the Mum of the Monthby Lagos Mums, a parenting community, and in a chat with the community, Dolapo, who has been married for three and a half years and has a cute 18-month-old son, shared interesting tips from her life as a mum and lessons she has learned along the way and many more.

Below are excerpts from the interview…

On what has surprised her the most about motherhood:

What has surprised me the most is how much love you can have for another human being. Total unadulterated love. It is honestly mind-blowing. And also how selfless you become.

On what motherhood has taught her about herself:

I truly understood God’s love for me when I became a mother. It’s like something just clicked. His absolute unconditional love.

On the importance of having a support system as a mum:

Very important for my Sanity! True support comes in quality, not quantity. I would rather have 1 great person in my corner than 20 people just faffing about. My mum, a few mum friends, and my nanny are a great help!

On what new mums should know:

That it is okay to take your time. It is okay to take your time to get back and feel like your “old” self.

On some of the funniest things her child has said or done:

Well he has this little bench that he stands on to wash his hands and when it’s time for him to eat and wash his hands (if you are sitting on it) he takes your hand gently and you are thinking “awww so sweet he wants to hold your  hand” when actually he is pulling you off so he can push his bench to the sink to stand on it.

I snapped back by taking my time to get my body to where I wanted it to be and taking time before I was mentally ready to go back to work. I spoke to close friends that had kids already and got great advice.

God.

As a Yummy Mummy, can you share how you stay stylish and your beauty routine

Well, I don’t have a stylist. I just like clean cut pieces and I know what suits me. My beauty routine is to always wash your face before you go to bed.
