Nigerian Mum Reveals Why She Will No Longer Accept Non-cash Baby Gifts

A Nigerian mom, Esther Obabirin has narrated an encounter that made her take a decision never to accept non-cash baby gifts.

The X user explained that after she gave birth to her baby, a couple gave her gifts, baby seater & baby car seat, but to her surprise, the couple asked her to return it all after two years.

She added that she later discovered from others that it’s a norm for the couple to give gifts and ask for it after a while.

Sharing her story, she wrote:

“Even if I born again I no Dey accept baby gifts from anybody, please convert it to cash and send to the baby account or just come & celebrate with me. Na person give me baby seater & baby car seat when I born immediately my boy clocked 2yrs she called me that she needs them.

“I asked her why ? She said she just needs them gift wey you give me when I just born ? This woman & her husband started threatening me on phone o that I must return those gifts. I say wahala.

The threats were so much I had to involve the police & they signed undertaking to stop threatening me. Na later person wey know them give me gist say that’s how they do.

They will give newborn mums gift and ask for it back when the child is grown. I no return anything. I don block them everywhere. If you like no believe say this life is Spiritual.”

She added:

“Till today Kemi & her Alfa husband are yet to tell me why they woke up one day when my baby was abt to be 2, to demand for the baby items they gave my baby as gifts when I just put to bed. No fight, no quarrels. I didn’t even beg them for gifts in the first place. Evil couple.”
