Polio Virus: Shock As Two New Cases Is Reported In Borno State
Nigeria’s progress towards attaining a polio-free status may have suffered a setback as reports of two fresh infections in Gwarzo and Jere Local Government Areas of Borno State, have emerged.
According to reports, the new cases were recorded yesterday, August 10th. Officials of the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, have however refused to comment on the reports, which if confirmed, will ultimately dash Nigeria’s hope of being certified Polio-free by the World Health Organisation next year.
It would be recalled that last week, a number of civil society organisations raised concern about N12.8 billion immunization fund yet to be released only four months to the end of 2016.
Dr. Aminu Magashi, project director for Community Health and Research Initiative, part of the coalition Partnership for Advocacy for Child and Family Health, PACFaH, was quoted to have said:
”We have less than five months to the end of 2016 yet nothing has been released for immunization, for procurement of vaccines and other logistics.
As a nation we cannot continue to depend on development partners to buy the vaccines we need in the country yet we have funds for such purposes in our budget.”
Not again???
Hmmmmmmmmmm naija I hail.
All I can say is ‘Thank God Ebola virus incident didn’t happen in this regime. Nigeria would have been wiped out of the map’. We are indeed experiencing the change which includes neglecting the health sector
