Couple With 12 Sons Hoping For A Girl Welcome 13th Boy

A US couple with 12 sons who were finally hoping to have a daughter have welcomed their 13th boy.

According to Mirror UK, Jay and Kateri Schwandt, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, have defied odds of 1 in 8192 to add another boy to their brood – Tyler, 22, Zach, 19, Drew, 18, Brandon, 16, Tommy, 13, Vinnie, 12, Calvin, 10, Gabe, 8, Wesley, 6, Charlie, 5, Luke, 3, and 21-month-old Tucker.

The newborn was born on Wednesday and is a healthy nine pounds. He has not been named yet, as the name has to be approved by the couple’s other sons.

Jay, 40, admits he wanted a girl but told ABC News his wife – herself from a family of 14 – was “pulling for another boy because that’s in her comfort zone”.

The Schwandts manage their household of rough-and-tumble boys through a system of flow charts and a strict regime of chores.

“There’s a lot of activity, a lot of commotion, a lot of chaos, but there’s also a lot of love,” Kateri, 40, said.

As for whether there will be a baby No. 14, Jay Schwandt said: “You never say never.”
