See How This Brave Fireman Helped Teen Mum Who Fell in Labour By the Roadside

A brave fireman, Rob Nulty, helped a teenage mum give birth after finding her in labour by the side of the road.

According to Mirror UK, Rob had to act quickly when he saw the heavily pregnant 18-year-old struggling in a Dublin street on Saturday afternoon.

The young mum-to-be’s contractions were so close together she couldn’t get herself to hospital, so brave Rob and his colleague, Paul McGurrell, helped her into the back of their fire brigade ambulance.

But as soon as she was in, the baby was already on the way and there was no time to get to the city’s Rotunda Hospital for the birth.

Rob told the Irish Mirror: “When we got there the girl was on the road and she managed to walk into the ambulance. She was in a lot of pain but stayed calm. She had to pull her trousers down and push straight away, the head appeared. It took three pushes and the baby was out. We had to carefully guide him out. Then we wrapped the baby in a fire blanket while we made our way to the hospital.”

It was the first time Rob, 33, took such a central role in delivering a baby even though he’s been a fireman since 2008.

He revealed: “It was a great feeling, the delivery went well, the baby was absolutely perfect.”

Rob posted a photo on his Facebook of him beaming as he held the tiny newborn in his arms, captioned: “Just another average day in work. Mother gave permission to post the good news. Baby boy born in the back of the DFB Swords Ambulance this afternoon.”

Rob thinks the mum named her little boy Alexi.

His friends have been singing his praises on social media for the heroic feat.
