9 Parenting Topics You Should Refuse To Debate

When it comes to parenting, everybody has one opinion or the other about what you should and shouldn’t do. There are those who will shove their opinion down your throat and those who preach the gospel of what works and what doesn’t.

One should never forget that variety is the spice of life and that what works for one family may not work for another. The same tactics or pattern of parenting might not even work for children in the same family. We are going to highlight some of the parenting topics that you just shouldn’t be caught arguing, and you should stop arguing about if you already do.

1. Baby Food

Some people believe that it is unhealthy to buy the bottled or canned baby food from the store, while some people actually make all the food their babies eat. This is fine either ways, as long as your are buying the healthy-nutrient packed type of store food.

2. Crying It Out

You ever heard the rule that you shouldn’t always pick up your child every time they cry? Why? Because it makes them more independent of you. I know one or two people who will look you in the eye and call you cruel for leaving a child to cry. Even if it was for 2 Minutes!

3. Outings

Some people frown heavily at a mother or father going out with a new born baby just a few days old, while others see nothing wrong in going wherever mama goes. Here in Nigeria, the Yoruba people dedicate their babies 7 days after birth, while the Ibo people wait for 3months before doing theirs.

4. Co-sleeping

I personally had a friend who came into my room and saw my baby asleep beside me on the bed. The look of horror on her face was beyond horrific as she picked my daughter up, dropped her in her crib, frowned at me and said. “don’t you know you could roll on her?” I still sleep with my baby today, well sometimes, she’s over one, and I’ve never over her.

5. Pacifiers

It hasn’t been medically proven as some people claim that pacifiers make babies colic, so should not be be used, while some swear by it that it soothes their their grouchy and upset infants.

6. How Many Children To Have

This is a topic that has been debated for years, and might still be a bone of contention for years to come. Some are of the opinion that having either one to three children are ideal for a family, while some people believe that having as many children that are humanly possible is what’s best for them. Well, nobody can argue, if you have the money for it, and the shoe fits, please by all means enjoy.

7. Getting a Help

Another hot topic. While some frown deeply on hiring a maid, some people actually need the extra help.

8. Spanking

My twin brother was canned constantly by my parents, but I wasn’t as much. As a mother now, I understand that my brother responded positively when he was canned, but I always obeyed or listened when I was spoken too.

9. Appropriate Age To Give A Child Solids

Most people feel that you a child can be given light solids from the 6 months or so, while some start giving their children as early as 3 months of age. Every baby is different and we shouldn’t judge each other, but help each other.
