Update: “Stranger told me to bring my Employer’s child” –  Housemaid who abducted Toddler in Idimu

The Aweda family were thrown into utter disarray after discovering that their 14-year-old housemaid had taken their 22-month-old daughter Mayowa and left their house in Idimu.

You will recall that the incident which took place last month, (read here) revealed that the maid was later found under Oshodi bridge.

PUNCH reports that Christiana, 14, claimed that she was asked to bring the toddler by a man named Matthew. She added that he drove them off on a motor cycle and left them under bridge instructing her to wait there till he arrives in the morning to get them.

“He told me that we would be moving  early the following morning, the girl told the police.”

It was under the Oshodi bridge around 2 am that men of the Lagos State Police Command found the two of them.

Leo Aweda, the father of the victim said Christiana, claimed to have told the policemen of ‘Bolade Oshodi Police Division’ that they were both from the same parents and did not have a place to go adding that:

“She told them she did not understand Yoruba whereas she is from Iseyin. The police thought they were taking care of abandoned children.

Some people told us that she might have been hypnotized by people who wanted to abduct our child. When she left home with my daughter, she did not pick any of the things we bought for her except a rechargeable lamp.

While we were searching for her, someone spotted her around 9 pm somewhere with our girl. The person said she had N500 with her out of which she bought a sausage roll for my daughter.”

The police suggests that Christiana probably had a change of heart while in police custody and admitted that they were from Unity Estate, Egbeda.
