In support of bereaved parents, D’Banj and wife, Didi Lineo Kilgrow, Maryam Bello-Tukur who has also lost an infant in the past took to her Instagram page to pen a heartfelt note to the couple, while admonishing critics to refrain from blaming the couple for the death of their 13-months old son, Daniel Oyebanjo III who drowned in a pool at their Ikoyi residence (read here).

Since the news of the tragic death broke online, some insensitive Nigerians heaped the blame on the toddler’s mom for being careless. They attributed the death to negligence on the part of Lineo.

As a parent who has lost a child too, the poster in a post shared on the Instagram page, @seven8playground said accidents happen and that Nigerians should give the grieving parents space to wrap their heads around this sad incident.

She added that she has lost her both parents, but losing a child is much worse. According to the concerned mom, speculating for details about how it happened, who was watching the child or where the mother was etc will only add to their grief and guilt.

”As a parent who has lost a child, I know how both parents must feel-the sense of emptiness, the helplessness, the questions, the guilt… No parent should ever bury their child.

I have lost both parents and losing a child is much worse. People who have never experienced either tend to ask questions or make comments that are insensitive because they don’t understand the magnitude of the loss.

My heart goes out to @iambangalee and his family. Please, let us all be tactful and respectful. Their grief is greater than our curiosity. Speculating for details about how it happened, who was watching the child or where the mother was etc will only add to their grief and guilt.

Truth is, accidents happen. It was little Daniel’s time to go. It is God’s will and who are we, mere mortals, to question that?! Let’s give his parents space to wrap their heads around this sad incident.????????

Let us refrain from inappropriate comments on social media. Trust me, you would not anything less appreciate it if it were you bearing the loss.”
