COVID 19: Actress/ Mum-Of-Two, Funke Akindele Bello Arrested For Flouting FG’S Social Distancing Order

The Lagos state police command says it has arrested actress and mum, Funke Akindele-Bello for violating the restriction order placed on the state by President Buhari in a bid to curtail the spread of the deadly Coronavirus. The actress and her hubby, Abdulrasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz had a house party last night in their home in Amen estate, Lagos to celebrate his birthday. The couple held the party at their Lagos home, yesterday, April 5 and the actress was arrested later same day.

The couple shared videos from the party showing their living room packed full with people who were making merry amidst the birthday celebration. The video caused outcry from the public as it was alarming to see a lot of people in an enclosed space at this time when a global health pandemic has crippled the world and caused the death of over 60,000 people. The outcry caused police in Lagos state to swing into action arresting the actress .

A statement from the spokesperson of the police command read:

Funke Akindele arrested for violating restriction orders in Lagos

The Attention of Lagos State Police Command was drawn to a viral video showing a large number of persons mainly in the entertainment industry in an Estate, along Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki axis, Lagos celebrating a birthday party organised by Funke Akindele Bello and her husband.

Police detectives from the State CID Yaba were promptly drafted to the location.

Funke Akindele was arrested.”.

The statement added that the police is in search for her hubby, JJC Skillz and Naira Marley.

Investigation is ongoing, efforts are intensified to arrest the remaining persons in the video, among whom are Azeez Fashola a.k.a Naira Marley and Abdul Rasheed Bello a.k.a. JJC Skillz.

They are in their best interests urged to report at the State CID Yaba on Monday 6th April, 2020 or risk being declared wanted. 

A short while before her arrest, the actress took to her social media to appeal to aggrieved Nigerians but that did not quite abate the situation.

An exclusive report from LindaIkeji blog has now revealed that the mum-of-two spent the night at the State Criminal Investigation Department SCID office in Panti, Lagos.

A police source who confirmed this to LIB, said the actress’s husband, Abdulrasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz, who was not availabe when she was picked up has turned himself in and is currently with her in Panti.

The police source added that they would be arraigned in court this morning. 

Singer Naira Marley and other guests at the party who the police have asked to report at the SCID for questioning are still being awaited. 

The Lagos Infection Diseases Regulations 2020, prescribes a jail term of one month or N100,000 fine or both for any one found guilty of hosting gatherings or flouting the lockdown order.

The regulation act in part reads

Where there is a violation of a closedown or stay-at-home order, security agencies shall have the power to arrest without warrant and may detain any person, who violates the closedown or stay-at-home order, for at least 48 hours.

“Where the arrested person is found guilty, the person is liable to a fine of N100,000 or one month imprisonment or three months’ community service.
