Singer, Seun Kuti Reacts To Allegations Of Being An Abusive Husband

Popular Nigerian singer, Seun Kuti, has finally responded to allegations that he physically and verbally abuses his wife, Yetunde.

Speculations arose recently suggesting that the Afrobeat singer’s wife might be a victim of domestic violence after a viral video showed him yelling at her during an altercation with a police officer.

In the video, which circulated online a few weeks ago, Yetunde is seen stepping out of the car in an attempt to calm her husband during the confrontation with the officer on Third Mainland Bridge.

However, Seun who is the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, ordered her back into the car, and she complied without hesitation.

This sparked a flurry of reactions from social media users who speculated that Yetunde who shares a child with Seun was afraid of him.

Addressing these speculations during a recent Instagram live session, Seun denied assaulting his wife. He added that it was crucial he dispelled it, insisting it was born out of jealousy from many Nigerian men who couldn’t stomach to see that their kind could speak to his wife and she obeyed.

40-year-old Seun also debunked the notion that Yetunde is scared of him, stating that he is the one who is actually scared of her.

He added that those who are familiar with his family could testify to this.

“The most important rumor I must dispel is the one that they said I’m beating my wife. They said I screamed at her to get into the car [in the viral video], and she went into the car… That she is scared of me.

My wife is not scared of me. Trust me, if you know anybody that knows us, I’m the one that’s scared of my wife. But my wife respects me.

“And I know that many of you Nigerian men were just jealous to see a man that can talk to his wife and his wife would listen. That’s the problem. It’s jealousy,”
