1,000 IDP Women Receive Training On Safe Motherhood And How To Defend Themselves Against Rapists

In an interview with the press on Friday in Maiduguri, the Chairman of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Satomi Ahmed said the agency has commenced with the training of 1000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) on self defence against sexual violence, reproductive health and safe motherhood.

Ahmed told the press that this was necessary as IDPs would soon be taken back to their various communities and need to know how to defend themselves in case of any attack.

He said, “After the training, the beneficiaries would serve as ambassadors of the fight against domestic violence and sexual abuse in their various communities.

“At the end of the training, the women would be equipped with the relevant skills on how they can protect themselves against any accidental circumstances. The training will give the women the opportunity to assist other women on complications that may arise especially during child birth.

”This sensitisation is also designed to further build confidence in them to enable them return back to their homes without any fear.”
