Dear MIMsters: How Do I Get My Niece To Stop Influencing My Daughter?

My niece who is living with me has a negative influence on my daughter and this is affecting my home.

I am a mother of three aged, 5, 4 and 3 months old.

My elder sister has a child out of wedlock who is now over 5-year old out of wedlock. She plead with me to help her raise her child and she would montly support with some money to feed her.

Though it was a tough decision to make considering how occupied I am with my business and coupled with the fact that I have no help. I accepted.

The issue now is that this my niece has now negatively influenced my 4 year old daughter who was once very smart and brilliant.

My niece doesn’t like sleeping in the afternoon, so she always wakes up my daughter from sleep so they can play together. This happens even at night. When I go to their room at night, I sometimes catch them playing at 2 a.m.

This makes my husband end up always flogging them both, which I am not happy with. He would then threaten to send me packing if I don’t allow him discipline my niece the way he wants.

I need advice on how to stop my niece from playing too much with my daughter and interfering with her sleep as it is telling on her performance at school. She no longer comes home with good grades and her attitude has changed.
