Married Mum Claims Boss Let Her Steal Cash Because They Were Having An Affair

A married mum-of-three accused of stealing £100,000 told a court her boss let her take the money because they were having an affair.

Theresa Allen, 43, claims Nicholas Hing, 51, knew she was taking a second salary as well as false overtime and expenses payments.

The finance manager, who blew the cash gambling, says they had sex more than 30 times in 18 months.

But Hing, whose company Swift Metal Fabrications nearly went bust, told Luton crown court he “got drunk and got off” with Allen maybe four or five times.

Allen, who spent much of the cash gambling, denies theft.

Prosecutor, Ann Evans said: “She says that a close personal friendship turned into a sexual relationship with Mr Hing – despite the fact that she was married with three children – and this relationship lasted a period of 18 months. Her case is that all the money taken from Swift Metal was with the full consent and knowledge of Mr Hing.”

Divorcee, Hing, who founded his company 25 years ago, employed Allen as a finance manager in November 2008.

Hing told the court he paid her £412 a week, adding: “I knew of her before because her husband had done sub-contracting work for me a number of years ago. She slowly grew into the job and had total control of the finances – paying wages, sorting out tax returns, getting money from clients and paying the tax and VAT.”

In December 2012, Hing’s accountant alerted him to the theft and he arranged to meet Allen in a pub.

He contacted police several months later and Allen, of Luton, Beds, was charged with stealing £100,600.

The trial continues.
