An Arizona man smuggled his 2-day-old daughter out of a hospital maternity ward in a plastic shopping bag, police said, the NY Daily news reports.

Jason Matthew Bristol made it all the way home before he was busted for shoving his newborn baby into a bag and carrying her out of Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale. He casually walks down the hospital’s hallway, toting a bag in one hand, surveillance video shows. The baby, who was born with traces of morphine, marijuana and methamphetamine in her system, is covered with a blanket, according to AZ Central.

Bristol paces the hallway as alarms blare and the entire maternity wards goes into lockdown. Nurses come to investigate — and one eventually deactivates the alarm, allowing Bristol to bolt out of the hospital. Bristol — a meth addict who knew the state would take the baby away, according to reports — was charged with child abuse and drug possession.
