Mum Accuses Student Nurses Of Defiling 6-Year-Old Daughter

A mum has accused three students said to be final-year students of the Edo State School of Nursing, Benin of defiling her six-year-old girl in Oredo Local Government Area of the state. The suspects allegedly lured her daughter from a makeshift store within the school hostel, while she was away.

According to reports, the little girl later complained of stomach pain and urinated profusely. Her mother subsequently discovered that she had been defiled.

The victim’s mum reported the incident at the Aidenyan police station, leading to the arrest of two of the suspects. The third allegedly escaped.

She was also said to have brought the case before the Edo State Commissioner for Health and the Principal of the school who confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Stephen Onwochei, however said a proper case of defilement had not been brought before the command, adding that the accused persons had rather petitioned the Area Command against the mother of the said victim for false accusation.

He, however, said that the matter would be looked into by the Area Commander.

Onwochei said, “That matter is not too straight forward. The little we know is that on May 15, the mother of the girl, who sells within the school, had a problem with some student nurses because they asked her to pack out of the shop.

Later, on May 16, she reported to the school that something of that nature (defilement) happened but she did not report to the police at the first instance. So, it was later that the lawyer to the persons accused wrote a petition to the Area Commander that someone was trying to tarnish their clients’ image.

The Area Commander called, instructing that the students should not be arrested because they had already petitioned the Area Commander that the women was alleging defilement. He then asked them to go, that the area command would sought out the matter.

So, there is no proper case of defilement before the police. But whichever way it goes, the AC will look into it before it can be confirmed if it is a proper case of defilement or not,” he said.
